If anything, 2020 has served as a sobering reminder of the importance of equal access to healthcare. When the pandemic hit, even the world’s most efficient and developed healthcare systems faced difficulties – from fatigue among healthcare professionals to severe protective equipment shortages, and unsustainable delays in non-emergency medical care.
What happens during the ongoing second wave depends on how effectively we can update our response strategies based on what we’ve learned so far. In times like these, the ability to adapt to changing circumstances is essential. It’s a cornerstone of what we like to call resilience – and that’s exactly what we need on all levels of society today.
The October issue of FutuConnect revolves around healthcare, a theme we've focused on quite a bit recently. In many ways, advances in the field of medicine represent the apex of humankind’s scientific progress, but at the same time, there are many ways to augment the inner workings of the healthcare sector. From data to service design, the articles we’ve picked for this edition highlight a handful of areas that have plenty to contribute in the future.
In the meantime, let’s do what we can to help fight the pandemic. Face masks take some getting used to, and can’t be used by everyone for various reasons. If you can, please wear one. Having a swab poked up your nose isn’t exactly a nice sensation. If you develop symptoms, please get tested anyway. The rest is easy – just keep your hands clean, maintain safe distances, and make sure your phone is running your local contact tracing app.
