Empowering diversity in tech 

Join us for an evening of accessibility insights, drinks, and mingling. On Thursday, May 25th, 2023, Futurice will host an accessibility-themed event both live at Tampere and online. This event is part of a series of events happening across multiple sites, all of which are related to Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

This event gives people with disabilities and those working with them the opportunity to share their experiences of digital products with the community of people who build them. We get to hear our speakers share their personal experiences on digital and physical accessibility from a cultural and social perspective, as well as the importance of accessibility in tech and design.

We will have enlightening talks from three fantastic speakers.

• Amu Urhonen is a Finnish disability rights activist and chair of the Abilis Federation. Amu will provide concrete examples and a social perspective on the importance of accessibility in the digital and physical world. She also explains the importance of legislation.
• Terhi Manninen works as a Digital Accessibility Specialist at the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired. Terhi will talk about the spectrum of visual impairment and the related accessibility concerns. She will highlight what can be better taken into account in one's own work and whose responsibility accessibility really is.
• Azra Tayyebi is an accessibility specialist currently working for Gofore in their Finland office. Azra will talk about what it is like to do business and work as a visually impaired person. They highlight the need for accessibility in the workplace and as a professional and the cultural change that is needed.
