Good morning!

October is ending in a season of exciting updates for developers, with notable releases in both the JavaScript and Java ecosystems. As these new winds of change blow through the tech world, they bring fresh opportunities for developers to create faster, smarter, and more efficient applications. So let’s take a look at what has been happening in the past weeks!

Meet our curator of the month

Pedro Julián García Ruiz

Julián has been working in the IT industry since 2018, working in different technologies, from video game development to full-stack applications. While he's most experienced in Java, he considers himself a multiparadigm developer and loves playing around with different languages. He loves algorithms and designing solutions, apart from having some addictions to coffee and chess.

New and updated language features on Java 23

By Mala Gupta

The team behind IntelliJ has posted a really good compendium on what’s new on this new version. Java 23 introduces the long-awaited Project Loom, enabling lightweight virtual threads to simplify concurrency and improve scalability in Java applications. Alongside this, advanced pattern matching and improvements to records bring cleaner, more expressive code.

Know your curator

Tell us about one project you’ve worked on that you found particularly interesting or challenging.

I have been working for an international power tools company, building a complex infrastructure full of microservices, taking care of them all, and ensuring no one is being set on fire.

Each team has the ownership of one or more of these services, and it’s super interesting to see how these services are shaped because everybody has a different way of thinking and programming, which usually leads to really deep conversations about code and structure.

What’s one skill or technology you’ve learned recently that has had an impact on your work?

Recently I have been working on Gen AI projects, like a lot of developers these days. It has been exciting so far, after working so many years building APIs. Definitely, it's been refreshing.

Is there a hobby or interest that you’re passionate about?

Playing video games is one of my multiple passions. Sadly, I have realized lately that the older you become, the less time you have to spend on this hobby. So now I am trying to set a weekly schedule to try and rob some time that I can dedicate to this wonderful world.
