This month's Dev Breakfast is a quick read from Sander Nobel, who switched to a tech career two and a half years ago and has some handy resources for beginners and career techies alike.
Meet Sander, this month's curator
Sander is a full-stack developer at our Stockholm office. His work is predominantly in mobile development, Flutter in particular. He also has a keen interest in open-source and social hackathons. In his free time, you can find Sander playing video games, badminton, the guitar, or traveling.
Vandad is someone I have been following for a while now on Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. As I am currently working with Flutter quite a bit, his materials have been really helpful in my learning. His 35+ hour Youtube Flutter course for beginners is available for free and is a great starting point for anyone looking to start using Flutter.
As someone without a traditional education in software development, there are certain concepts within the industry that are quite intimidating at first, and come up regularly. Big O notation is one of these concepts. JTK does a great job of simplifying the concept through examples, and great explanations of the theory behind it.
A lot of tools that we use in our day-to-day work as developers are actually open source. Seeing as it is October, and Hacktoberfest is well underway, having a resource here about how to contribute to open-source repositories seems well-fitting. This site is full of useful tips suitable for beginners as well as more advanced open-source contributors.
Having your website’s TLS/SSL certificate expire is not a good thing. Sometimes you might not pay enough attention and could miss a renewal deadline causing a lot of trouble for yourself and your users. It’s even worse if you have a lot of websites to manage as a hobby or in a professional setting. Jae created her own easy-to-deploy solution using vanilla Python for this.
If you're all about creating scalable, maintainable, and modern digital services – and getting things done effectively, this might just be the opportunity you've been looking for.
