Connected, but alone?

Talk: Connected, but alone? By Sherry Turkle

Due to the current situation with coronavirus, all of us are heavily relying on online communication channels. That’s great because it allows us to keep in touch with colleagues and dear ones; however, I can’t help but be reminded of Sherry Turkle’s Ted Talk about the insights of technology and how we are letting our devices affect us.

“We expect more from technology and less from each other. And I ask myself — Why have things come to this? — and I believe it's because technology appeals to us most where we are most vulnerable. And we are vulnerable. We're lonely, but we're afraid of intimacy.”

If the video leaves you with the idea that Sherry Turkle is against technology, I also recommend reading her interview ‘I am not anti-technology, I am pro-conversation’.
